Fall is the perfect time to update family photos. There are lots of beautiful areas nearby to capture the season’s vibrant colors. Here are my top 3 session locations for fall photos:

1. Blue Ridge Parkway
The parkway offers breathtaking mountain views and colorful foliage—ideal for dramatic fall backdrops. Some of my favorite locations for fall photos include Mabry Mill, Puckett’s Cabin, & the town of Meadows of Dan.
Mabry Mill
This location is known for its iconic water mill that has been photographed by people from all over. The homestead is surrounded by trees and has many areas for fall photos including the pond, walking trails, & rustic cabins.
Puckett’s Cabin
This cabin at groundhog mountain is on the homeplace of the late midwife Orlean Puckett. The cabin & fence line surrounding the property are beautiful places for photo sessions. The gravel service road that runs behind the cabin is lined with trees that have beautiful fall color.
2. Doe Run Farms
Doe Run Farms in a family-owned farm in Ararat, VA. Each year they grown and create a maze out of acres of beautiful sunflowers. They have hay rides, pumpkin bowling, corn hole and other family activities. The sunflowers are always a favorite for fall photos. Another beautiful location here for photos is their zinnia field. The provide lots of color for your fall photo session!
3. Pilot Mountain State Park
Pilot Mountain has many areas that are great for photo sessions. You may choose to have images with the mountain and trees behind you, or you can go to the top and use the expansive views as a backdrop. Either way you’re sure to get some great images for your fall session.
